Sareth Builders Earns Certified Green Professional Designation

Sareth Building Company Earns Certified Green Professional Designation Building Fine Homes With Ultra Low Energy Use

The National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) recognizes Sareth Builders, LLC as a Certified Green Professional (CGP) building company. Stephan Kamrass, Principal of Sareth Builders, has earned this designation for establishing a solid background in green building methods while successfully incorporating those principles into homes without driving up the costs of construction. Certified Green Professional builders not only complete the required NAHB courses, but must also make an ongoing commitment to continuing education and adhere to a code of ethics.  The NAHB is considered the national leader in providing market-driven green building solutions to the home building industry. Green building utilizes natural resources and has been shown to offer homeowners considerably lower energy use.  Research has shown that a Certified Green Home may appraise higher and have a higher resale value than a non-green home.

A Certified Green Building Professional provides “green” and sustainable building practices, without the worry of “green washing”. Green washing is defined by the TerraChoice Marketing Group, Inc. as “the act of misleading consumers regarding the environmental practices of a company or the environmental benefits of a product or service.” In other words, green washing is the practice of claiming a product is green, when that claim is false, vague, unsubstantiated, or irrelevant, in order to sell a product. For more information on the practice of green washing, please refer to http://cms3.tucsonaz.gov/files/ocsd/6_sins_Terrachoice.pdf for details on the TerraChoice Marketing Group Inc. study.

Homes built by Sareth Builders feature many energy-efficient, sustainable features, designed to save on both the cost of fuel and natural resources. Sustainable means that Sareth homes offer a high standard of energy efficiency, while utilizing fewer natural resources. For example, the heating bills for a 4,300 square foot Sareth home average about $110 a month in winter, at a constant 65 degrees, which is a significant savings when compared to the monthly cost to heat a code-built home of comparable size.  Sareth Builder’s “tight building envelope” means that in many cases only one properly zoned mechanical system is required, that translates into overall lower operating and maintence cost. Volatile energy prices cause unpredictable monthly utility costs, and a home built by Sareth Builders provides peace of mind to homeowners by establishing predictable utility bills.

In addition to significant savings on monthly utilities, green homes may also have a higher resale value. In 2012, two separate independent studies performed at The University of California, Los Angeles and Berkeley found that green homes sell for an average of 9% higher  price than comparable non-green homes. Based on this information, a green home may provide substantial long-term value, as well as being environmentally friendly.

Sareth Builders offers luxury homes built by a Certified Green Professional in Westlake, Avon, Amherst and Lorain. In Cuyahoga County, Sareth Builders offers green, sustainable homes in Windsor Park and Lake Forest of Westlake. In nearby Lorain County, Sareth Builders is constructing high performance homes in Red Tail in Avon, plus new communities in Amherst and Lorain. The model home for Sareth Builders is located at 3656 Downing Court in Westlake’s WindsorPark. For more information or to schedule an appointment, call Stephan at 216-855-8635.

by Michele Bond Slaght

The average life expectancy in the United States has steadily increased over the last decade, bringing with it a unique need for housing that is specifically designed for the aging population. In 2012, the average life expectancy in the United States was listed at 78.6, which is a significant increase since 2001 when the average life expectancy was 76.9. With the increased longevity in the U.S. population comes the challenge of providing suitable housing to serve the lifestyle needs of that specific group. According to a recent poll, as many as 80% of Americans prefer to stay in the same home rather than move to a more user-friendly dwelling when mobility becomes an issue. The increased volume in the aging population combined with their strong desire to stay in their same dwelling has led to the development of specially trained group of professionals, known as Certified Aging-in-Place Specialists, (CAPS for short). The CAP Specialists are leading  the industry in constructing and remodeling homes that are custom-designed to suit the aging baby boomer demographic.

Certified Aging-in-Place Specialists (CAPS) are trained through the Natioal Association of Homebuilders to understand the evolving needs  and unique demands of the aging population. Through this knowledge, CAP specialists are able to provide customized design solutions to accommodate those evolving needs. Floor plans are specifically created with a high priority placed on both comfort and ease of accessibility. Every aspect of a home design is taken into careful consideration, including stairless entryways, variable height countertops, and strategic open space placement. By understanding the nature of aging and the specific needs it brings, CAP Specialists are able to design specialized floor plans for either new construction or an existing home to suit the needs of the aging population.  Comprehensive CAP knowledcge provides a unique perspective to the building industry, specifically home builders, remodelers, contractors, and architects that are serving the special needs of the baby boomer generation.

What is green building, and what makes a home sustainable?

Posted by on Mar 14, 2013

 By Michele Bond Slaght

“Green building” and “sustainability” are becoming popular terms in the construction industry, but what do they mean? Simply put, “green” and “sustainable” mean that the most environmentally responsible, resource-efficient building processes are used to create new structures from start to finish. Throughout the entire process of design, construction and operation, there is a coordination among the entire team of architects, engineers, builders and client that focuses on producing a structure that environmentally friendly, durable, and comfortable. Green building focuses on the efficient use of natural resources such as water and energy, and in the process reduces waste and pollution.
